Connie Williams Coulianos brings to The Speyer Legacy School more than two decades as an educator of precocious preschool children, their teachers and parents. Through her work with this fascinating population, whose unique needs are compelling, she developed the child-responsive curriculum that is the source of the unique approach to educating advanced learners, expanded and implemented here at Speyer Legacy School. She has presented various aspects of her work locally, nationally and internationally over the past 25 years. She is an award-winning teacher who was named Outstanding Preschool Teacher of 2007 by the Blackboard Awards and is featured as one of the top preschool teachers in the nation by Scholastic Magazine. Her 23 years of classroom teaching, teacher education and parent support at Hollingworth Preschool at Teachers College, Columbia University were recognized with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Blackboard Awards ceremony in June of 2009. Coming to the education of gifted children through a circuitous route, Connie holds an undergraduate degree in Music from Samford University in her hometown of Birmingham, Alabama and a Masters Degree in Vocal Performance from Indiana University. Upon encountering precocious preschoolers, she redirected her studies and earned a Masters degree in Early Childhood Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. Participating in the creation of The Speyer Legacy School is the realization of a cherished dream.
